Short-term Let Licensing in Scotland

The Scottish Government passed legislation, following consultation, that requires all short-term lets in Scotland to go through a licensing process.

The licensing scheme applies to the whole of Scotland and is implemented by local authorities. Those operating short-term lets before 1 October 2022 were required to apply for a licence by 1 October 2023. Existing operators who wish to establish new short-term let accommodations must obtain a licence before taking bookings. New short-term let hosts must have a licence before operating.
