The Scottish Government has passed legislation, following consultation, that requires all short-term lets in Scotland to go through a licensing process.
The licensing scheme applies to the whole of Scotland and will be implemented by local authorities, who must establish a short-term lets licensing scheme by 1 October 2022. All short-term lets in Scotland will need to be licensed by 1 July 2024.
More details about the legislation, what it is and steps you need to take to get ready to apply for a licence are available on VisitScotland.org.
The Scottish Government has published guidance for hosts and operators which you can read in the following link: Short-term lets – licensing scheme part 1: guidance for hosts and operators.
