The Scottish Government has passed legislation, following consultation, that requires all short-term lets in Scotland to go through a licensing process.
The licensing scheme applies to the whole of Scotland and is implemented by local authorities. Those operating short-term lets before 1 October 2022 were required to apply for a licence by 1 October 2023. Existing operators who wish to establish new short-term let accommodations must obtain a licence before taking bookings. New short-term let hosts must have a licence before operating.
More details about the legislation, what it is and steps you need to take to apply for a licence are available on VisitScotland.org.
The Scottish Government has published guidance for hosts and operators which you can read in the following link: Short-term lets – licensing scheme part 1: guidance for hosts and operators.
