VisitAberdeenshire recruiting new Chair to help drive tourism sector in North-east of Scotland

VisitAberdeenshire, the lead body for tourism serving Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire is seeking a new Chair of its board, succeeding Claire Bruce who will step down in November 2024.

The appointed Chair will lead the Board ensuring that there is a clear strategic direction and vision, and will work closely with the Board and Chief Executive to agree and set the Company’s overall direction, aims and objectives, and be a champion for the wider tourism sector.

Chris Foy, CEO, VisitAberdeenshire, said: “Tourism is a growth industry in the North-east of Scotland. The sector has recovered strongly from the stark impact of the pandemic to contribute almost £1.2 billion to the regional economy in 2023.

“The sustainable future of North-east tourism will be built upon the allure of our fairways and mountain bike trails, upon the arrival of cruise ships and the filling of conference halls and venues. All benefiting from our natural and built heritage, our thriving culture, a vast range of high-quality hospitality options, but most of all, from the people who work in thousands of roles at hundreds of local businesses.

“VisitAberdeenshire’s vision is to be the leading destination organisation in Scotland, increasingly recognised for growing the visitor economy through bold, dynamic initiatives. If you meet the criteria, the board will be delighted to hear from you.”

VisitAberdeenshire is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee; transparent, accountable to its stakeholders and reinvesting any trading surplus in the destination tourism offer. There is a public/private Board of Directors and organisational structure with Opportunity North East (ONE), Aberdeenshire Council and Aberdeen City Council being significant contributors. Local and national stakeholders including Aberdeen Inspired, AGCC, Cairngorms Business Partnership, and VisitScotland are invited to board meetings.
