Winter marketing campaign launched celebrating ‘Northern Nights’

VisitAberdeenshire has launched ‘Northern Nights’, a promotional campaign to attract visitors to Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire during the winter months.
The region enjoyed a record-breaking year in 2023, with total visitor numbers exceeding three million, and the economic value of tourism to the region measured at over £1 billion. To further bolster sustainable growth, the campaign aims to extend the visitor season by promoting the bright lights of the city, and the starry skies of Aberdeenshire, which has some of the darkest skies in the UK.
The campaign will run until the end of January, targeting potential visitors in the rest of Scotland, northern England, and Greater London.
Chris Foy, CEO, VisitAberdeenshire said: “We want the region to be an established year-round destination, and ‘Northern Nights’ highlights the reasons to travel here in the traditionally quieter months.”
“Statistically this year and next are believed to be the best in decades for spotting the Aurora Borealis, and our northern latitude, natural environment and clear night skies combine to make the North-east a prime destination for winter experiences without having to hop on a plane to Iceland or Norway.”
The campaign will also feature a partnership Caledonian Sleeper, with dual-branded advertisements.
Steven Marshall, Head of Sales & Marshall, Caledonian Sleeper, said: “We are delighted to again partner with the team at VisitAberdeenshire to promote our unique, low carbon way to travel to one of Scotland’s most diverse regions. Together we are showcasing the best of the region to a London and South east of England audience enticing them with a vibrant city, stunning coastal landscapes and excellent food and drink offering.”
Mr Foy continued: “From the city’s vibrant festivals to Aberdeenshire’s stargazing credentials – we want visitors to look up and around and immerse themselves in the sights and sounds of winter.”
