Attitudes and Behaviours of UK travelers in 2024

During this webinar with David Edwards of Scattered Clouds, we explored recent trends in both inbound and domestic tourism and looked ahead to prospects for the remainder of 2024.

We took stock of factors likely to shape demand such as the economic landscape, connectivity and consumer attitudes towards holidays. This was done with reference to wide range of data sources including research recently commissioned by VisitAberdeenshire to better understand the behaviours and perceptions of potential domestic visitors to the region.

Scottish Visitors - from Covid to Cost of living crisis - what does this mean for 2023?

In this webinar we welcomed back Jim Eccleston and Duncan Stewart of 56 Degree Insight who instigated the Scottish Tourism Index and which tracks Scottish consumer opinion and behaviours when it comes to holidays. Now undertaken on a quarterly basis, it also has a wider focus. The session looked at the results of the latest wave and includes answers to questions around how Scottish tourism has performed in 2022 and what the prospects are for 2023. With the current cost of living crisis, there was a major focus on how rising costs are impacting on Scottish residents’ holiday intentions for the rest of 2022 and looking forward to 2023.

This webinar took place on Tuesday 15 November 2022.

Our 2022 domestic visitor: priority activities, key information sources and how they view the region

In February 2022, VisitAberdeenshire carried out research with a sample of its leisure consumer database.

This webinar shared some of the main findings, including:
- the activities they like to prioritise when on a holiday/short break and the extent to which they perceive Aberdeen and/or Aberdeenshire offers these;
- what are the key information sources they turn to when planning their holidays and short breaks; and
- which keywords they believe best and least describe both Aberdeen and rural Aberdeenshire.

This webinar, delivered jointly by VisitAberdeenshire and Scattered Clouds, provided up-to-date insights on what our potential visitors are thinking right now as they plan their return to travelling.

Adventure Tourism Research

VisitAberdeenshire commissioned research in 2020, to deepen our understanding of the adventure tourism market, what would motivate them to choose the North-East for adventure tourism breaks and how best to communicate with this market in future campaigns. This webinar focused on the outcome of this research.

A key finding from the research was: when prompted with a short description and some images, 85% of the sample stated Aberdeenshire was appealing as an adventure tourism destination, highlighting the real opportunity for the region.

Further information from the research, to help you and your business to hone in on profiles that are of most relevance to you, including market profiling and pen portraits of 8 different types of adventure tourism customers can be found here: https://industry.visitabdn.com/home/insights/adventure-tourism-insights
